Learn how to play the Rolling Realms Promo: Parks realm. Step-by-step rules, scoring tips, and common mistakes to avoid.
Quick Answer
The Rolling Realms Promo: Parks realm asks you to hike three trails from left to right, using dice to mark sites and gain benefits. To win, visit all six star-marked sites before the game ends.
What Makes the Parks Realm Unique
Unlike other Rolling Realms promos that focus on resource conversion or area control, Parks is a pure movement-and-collection puzzle. You roll dice, assign them to trail sites, and advance down three separate paths. The challenge is balancing progress on all three trails because you need to complete every starred site to finish the realm.
Because this promo pack requires the Rolling Realms core game, you already know the basic turn structure. The Parks realm simply replaces one of the standard realms in your game. It works with any player count and any combination of other realms.
Trade-Offs to Consider
The Parks realm rewards focused play. Spreading your dice too evenly across all three trails can leave you short of completing any single trail. On the other hand, rushing one trail may cause you to miss star sites on the others. There is no penalty for backtracking, but each die placement is a permanent decision for that turn.
Because the promo adds no new components beyond the six cards, setup is identical to the core game. Shuffle the Parks realm card into your deck of realm cards and draw as usual.
How to Play the Parks Realm
- Set Up the Realm Card: When you draw the Parks realm card, place it in your play area. You will see three horizontal trails running left to right. Each trail contains several sites, some marked with a star. You need to visit every star site to complete the realm. Double-check that you have all six star sites visible. A missing star means you cannot complete the realm.
- Roll and Assign Dice: On your turn, roll your dice as normal. Choose one die and place it on an unmarked site on any trail. The die's value must equal or exceed the number shown on that site. If the site has no number, any die value works. You can place a higher-value die on a lower-number site, but you cannot place a lower-value die on a higher-number site. Plan ahead to avoid wasting high rolls.
- Gain Trail Benefits: When you place a die on a site that has a benefit icon (such as a reroll or extra die), resolve that benefit immediately. Benefits are one-time effects that help you on future turns. Some benefits are optional. If you forget to use a reroll before your next die placement, you lose that opportunity. Resolve benefits right away.
- Complete a Trail: When you have placed dice on every site of a single trail, that trail is complete. You may still place dice on other trails. Completing a trail does not grant an immediate bonus unless the card says so. You do not need to finish trails in order. Focus on whichever trail gives you the best odds with your current dice.
- Visit All Star Sites: The realm is complete when you have placed a die on every site that has a star. You do not need to fill every non-star site. Once all six star sites are occupied, you may set the realm card aside as completed. Non-star sites are optional. If you are short on dice, skip them and only target star sites. But remember that some non-star sites provide benefits that help you reach stars faster.
