Category: expansion

The fourth Wingspan expansion explores the birds of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. This incredibly biodiverse and abundant region is home to more than 3,000 bird species, including the birds with the smallest and largest wingspans in the world (the Bee Hummingbird and Snowy Albatross, respectively).

Hummingbirds make up about one tenth of the bird species in Latin America, delighting birders with their quick movements and shimmering feathers. Designer Elizabeth Hargrave and artists Natalia Rojas, Ana Maria Martinez Jaramillo, and Martha Clare highlight them in this expansion with a special deck that adds a twist to gameplay.

The Wingspan core game (or Wingspan Asia) is required to play the Americas expansion.

I've been waiting for a Caribbean and South America deck forever, and the sheer variety of species here makes every game feel different. The new bonus cards also finally give my nectar strategy a real payoff.

The Mexico and Central America birds add a whole new layer to our game nights, especially the ones with nectar-related powers. Our group has played the base set dozens of times, and this expansion finally made us feel like we were exploring a genuinely different region.

Didn't expect the Caribbean birds to shake up my usual engine so much — the regional bonus cards finally got my wife to stop hoarding the same three species every game. Plays great at two players, and the artwork alone is worth the shelf space.
