What's in the Tray Variety Pack? A Comprehensive Overview

Quick Answer

The Tray Variety Pack from Stonemaier Games includes a selection of plastic trays in various sizes, designed to organize components in board games like Finspan and Wyrmspan. It's a practical upgrade for keeping tokens, coins, and resources tidy during play and storage.

If you've ever found yourself sifting through a pile of cardboard tokens mid-game, you know the value of good organization. Stonemaier's Tray Variety Pack offers a simple solution: a set of trays that fit neatly into game boxes, keeping components sorted and accessible.

In this overview, we'll break down what comes in the pack, how to use the trays effectively, and how they pair with popular Stonemaier titles. Whether you're a seasoned organizer or just starting, this guide will help you decide if the Tray Variety Pack is right for you.

What's Included in the Tray Variety Pack?

The Tray Variety Pack contains a mix of tray sizes, though the exact configuration can vary by production run. Typically, it includes a range of rectangular and square trays that fit standard game boxes. The trays are designed to hold cards, tokens, and other components securely, preventing them from shifting during transport.

Because Stonemaier doesn't list a fixed set of sizes, it's wise to check the product listing for current contents. However, the pack is intended to be versatile, allowing you to mix and match trays to suit your specific games. This flexibility is a key advantage over single-purpose inserts.

• Check the product page for the latest tray dimensions and quantities.
• Consider the games you own and which components need organizing before purchasing.

How to Use the Tray Variety Pack Effectively

The trays shine in games with many small components. For example, in Finspan, the upgrade pack adds wooden tokens and squishy eggs that can be neatly sorted into trays, reducing setup time. Similarly, Wyrmspan's metal coins and wooden resources stay separated and accessible.

To get the most out of the pack, group components by type or player color. Use smaller trays for individual player pieces and larger ones for shared supplies. This approach speeds up gameplay and makes cleanup a breeze.

• Label trays with stickers or tape if you play multiple games with similar components.
• Store trays on top of the game board or in the box lid to maximize space.

Are There Alternatives?

If you're looking for component storage, you have options. Stonemaier also sells specific upgrade packs, like the Finspan Upgrade Pack, which includes wooden tokens and squishy eggs but not trays. The Tray Variety Pack complements these upgrades by providing the containers.

Some players prefer DIY solutions like plastic bead boxes, but those often don't fit game boxes as neatly. The Tray Variety Pack is designed with board game boxes in mind, ensuring a snug fit that protects components during storage.
